Lilly Opens First Genetic Medicine Facility and Commits $4.5 Billion in Indiana

Eli Lilly announced on May 6 an additional $4.5 billion investment across two of its three Lebanon, Indiana sites, while simultaneously opening Lilly Lebanon Advanced Therapies, its first dedicated genetic medicine manufacturing facility.
More than $21 billion in Indiana since 2020
The new investment brings the company’s total Indiana capital expansion commitments since 2020 to more than $21 billion.
Two Lebanon sites
The $4.5 billion will incorporate new process designs and technologies at Lilly Lebanon API, one of the company’s future active pharmaceutical ingredient sites, as well as at the newly opened Lilly Lebanon Advanced Therapies facility. The genetic medicine facility will handle both clinical and commercial production of genetic medicines, and the Lebanon Advanced Therapies campus is expected to support more than 1,000 jobs.
Building the plants of the future
David A. Ricks, Chair and CEO of Eli Lilly, said:
“From genetic medicines that could one day prevent disease at its source, to Foundayo, a pill making weight loss treatment accessible to millions, we are not just discovering the medicines of the future — we are building the world’s most advanced plants to make them. When our Lebanon API site opens in 2027, it will be the largest API production site in U.S. history, a commitment we chose to build here, at home.”
