Anduril to Invest $3.7 Billion in Arsenal-2 Submarine Shipyard in Baltimore County, Maryland

Anduril Industries announced on October 6 Arsenal-2, a new software-defined shipyard backed by a $3.7 billion private capital investment at Tradepoint Atlantic in Sparrows Point, Baltimore County, Maryland.
Virginia-class submarine components
Arsenal-2 will build complex components and large-scale assemblies of the Virginia-class submarine and deliver them to Electric Boat and Newport News Shipbuilding for final assembly. The Navy has awarded Anduril a contract of up to $2.9 billion.
2 million square feet and 3,100 jobs
The facility of more than 2 million square feet will sit on a 187-acre site with a 1,200-foot graving dock. It is expected to create more than 3,100 permanent jobs and support over 14,000 jobs in total, making it the largest single private investment in Maryland.
Timeline
Initial operations are expected to come online in 2030, with production scaling progressively thereafter.
Returning shipbuilding to Sparrows Point
Brian Schimpf, Cofounder and CEO of Anduril said:
“Sparrows Point helped build the fleet that won World War II. With Arsenal-2, Anduril will return large-scale shipbuilding to a site that can once again define American naval power. This facility will make Baltimore County a critical part of America’s submarine industrial base, adding the production capacity that the Navy needs to meet its Virginia-class requirements.”
