Amazon Plans Robotics Manufacturing Facility in Austin, TX

Amazon announced on August 19 a new multibillion-dollar manufacturing facility in Austin, Texas, that will produce the robotics systems working alongside its employees to handle repetitive tasks and heavy lifting.

300 to 500 jobs

The facility will create 300 to 500 high-paying manufacturing and engineering jobs, adding to Amazon’s 17,000 employees in Austin and 86,000 across Texas. The company has invested more than $100 billion in Texas since 2010.

Dog’s Head site in East Austin

According to Community Impact, the plant will be located off Hergotz and Dalton lanes in the newly annexed Dog’s Head area of East Austin. The roughly 300-acre development moved through city reviews earlier this year as “Project Toaster,” and site preparation began this summer.

No incentives requested

Austin Mayor Kirk Watson said Amazon asked for no economic incentives or public money for the project.

Holly Sullivan, Amazon’s Vice President of Worldwide Economic Development said:

“Austin’s talented workforce, world-class universities, and strong community partnerships make it the ideal home for this facility. We’re proud to deepen our commitment to this city and the state of Texas.”

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said:

“Texas is the new frontier for innovation. We congratulate Amazon on their expanded investment in Texas.”
