Project Type: Expanding existing US production
Prysmian Breaks Ground on $100 Million Optical Fiber Cable Expansion in Jackson, Tennessee

Prysmian broke ground on a $100 million expansion of its Jackson, Tennessee facility to increase loose-tube and drop optical fiber cable manufacturing capacity. Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee first announced the project in August, and the groundbreaking ceremony was held in October.
Doubling the plant
The investment will renovate and double the size of the current facility and create 100 new local jobs. Construction is expected to take approximately 20 months.
From copper to fiber
The expansion follows Prysmian’s $30 million investment announced in 2022 to transform the Jackson plant from legacy copper cable production to optical fiber cable manufacturing. General Cable first established operations in Jackson in 1991, and Prysmian acquired it in 2018.
Part of a $1 billion-plus U.S. program
The Jackson project is part of Prysmian’s investments across North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee to expand domestic fiber and optical cable capacity and create approximately 600 new U.S. manufacturing jobs.
Andrea Pirondini, Prysmian North America CEO said:
“When we invested in Jackson in 2022, we saw an opportunity to transform an existing facility and workforce to help meet the country’s growing need for fiber infrastructure. That investment laid the groundwork for this next phase, and today, we’re building on that foundation to increase U.S. manufacturing capacity, strengthen our ability to serve customers and create new opportunities in the Jackson community.”
Tennessee Governor Bill Lee said:
“Global companies like Prysmian continue to choose Tennessee because of our strong business climate and highly skilled workforce.”
