AdvanSix Selected for $47.4 Million USDA Grant to Expand Ammonia Production in Hopewell, Virginia

AdvanSix has been selected to receive $47.4 million in proposed funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to support Project CENTURY, a planned $98.1 million multi-year investment to modernize and expand ammonia manufacturing at its Hopewell, Virginia facility. The company announced the selection on October 29, 2026.
About 84,000 more tons of ammonia a year
Project CENTURY (Capacity Expansion for Nitrogen Technology, US Resilience & Yield) is expected to add approximately 84,000 tons of annual ammonia production capacity. The Hopewell site has a nearly 100-year history of producing nitrogen-based fertilizers and supports approximately 1,000 manufacturing employees.
Part of the USDA FIELDS program
The funding comes through USDA’s Fertilizer Investment & Expansion for Long-Term Domestic Supply (FIELDS) program. The administration selected eight projects to move forward in the FIELDS process, representing more than $1.34 billion in total proposed investment and approximately $573 million in proposed USDA funding.
Erin Kane, President and CEO of AdvanSix said:
“For nearly a century, our teammates in Hopewell have proudly manufactured essential products here in America, including the nutrients farmers depend on to grow the food that feeds our families and communities. We are proud to invest in American manufacturing, support American jobs and expand domestic fertilizer production for farmers across the country.”
