Genentech Breaks Ground on $750 Million Manufacturing Expansion in Hillsboro, Oregon

Genentech Breaks Ground on $750M Hillsboro, Oregon Plant

Genentech, a member of the Roche Group, broke ground on September 28, 2026 on a $750 million expansion of its manufacturing facility in Hillsboro, Oregon, advancing plans first announced in August.

Doubling the site

The 211,000-square-foot expansion will double the size of the existing site. Once operational, it will add device fill-finish capabilities, including combination products, to Genentech’s U.S. manufacturing network, with flexible high- and low-volume filling for oncology, neurology and immunology medicines. Commercial operations are planned to begin in 2031.

The facility will use AI, automation and robotics, as well as an exact digital twin for real-time monitoring and continuous improvement.

250 high-wage jobs

The expansion will create approximately 250 manufacturing jobs in filling and inspection, device assembly and packaging, cold storage and quality control, plus about 200 construction jobs. Genentech established its 75-acre Hillsboro campus in 2006.

Genentech CEO Ashley Magargee said:

“Breaking ground in Hillsboro turns our commitment into action. For 20 years, the talented team here has played an important role in manufacturing and delivering medicines for patients, and this expansion builds on that strong foundation.”
