EMD Electronics Opens Semiconductor R&D Site in Wisconsin

EMD Electronics opened a new 38,000-square-foot research and development facility in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, on October 2, 2026. The site is part of a multi-year $200 million U.S. investment that is expected to create 44 jobs.

Eight specialized laboratories

The facility includes eight laboratories supporting materials discovery, development, qualification, purification, packaging and hazard testing. It supports development, scale-up and technology transfer of advanced materials for next-generation semiconductor manufacturing. Further expansion in Sheboygan Falls is planned for 2027.

Dr. Bing Han, Executive Vice President and Head of Thin Films at EMD Electronics said:

“This new facility brings together the capabilities needed to work alongside our customers on their most complex materials challenges and accelerate innovation from the lab to commercial production.”

State support

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation is providing up to $4.5 million in performance-based tax credits tied to capital investment and job creation.
