Hanwha Defense USA to Build $2.2 Billion Munitions Campus at Pine Bluff Arsenal

Hanwha Plans $2.2B Munitions Campus at Pine Bluff, Arkansas

Hanwha Defense USA has announced plans to locate its new Hanwha Advanced Manufacturing Campus at the U.S. Army Pine Bluff Arsenal in Arkansas. The munitions facility represents a capital investment of $2.2 billion and is expected to create close to 400 jobs over seven years.

155mm propellant charges

The facility will produce 155mm propellant charges and base bleed units, establishing domestic manufacturing capabilities across key stages of munitions production. Hanwha opened a new administration headquarters at the arsenal as the first step in its campus plans. Construction is expected to be completed by 2030, with operations starting in 2031.

Michael Coulter, CEO of Hanwha Defense USA said:

“Hanwha remains committed to supporting the American defense industrial base by bringing our manufacturing strength to the U.S. and creating up to 400 jobs in Arkansas.”

Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders said:

“By choosing the Pine Bluff Arsenal as the home of their new munitions manufacturing campus, Hanwha Defense USA is delivering a huge win for communities throughout the Arkansas Delta, bolstering local economies and creating hundreds of jobs.”

Army lease

Hanwha was awarded a lease solicitation for the munitions campus in January 2026 under the Army’s enhanced use lease program.

Jordan Gillis, Assistant Secretary of the Army for Installations, Energy and Environment said:

“The eventual lease will create revenue for the Army, bring in new jobs for the local community, and enhance our organic industrial base.”
