Intel’s Ambitious Multi-Billion Dollar Expansion of U.S. Semiconductor Fabs

Intel's $100B U.S. Semiconductor Expansion

Intel is investing over $20 billion each in Ohio and Arizona fabs, part of a $100 billion+ U.S. expansion supported by nearly $20 billion in CHIPS Act funding. This reshoring addresses supply disruptions and competition from TSMC and Samsung.

The Ohio “megafab” in Licking County will produce advanced chips on Intel 18A and 14A nodes, creating 3,000 direct jobs and 20,000 construction roles. Arizona expansions in Chandler add two fabs for AI and high-performance computing. Additional investments in New Mexico and Oregon enhance packaging and R&D.

The effort includes a $3.5 billion military deal and aims for 50% U.S./Europe production by decade’s end, despite challenges like delays and costs.
