AstraZeneca to Invest $2 Billion in Maryland Manufacturing Expansion

AstraZeneca's $2B Maryland Expansion

British pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca announced a $2 billion investment to build a major new manufacturing campus in Maryland, including a 60-acre site in Frederick and a significant expansion of its existing biologics facility in Gaithersburg.

The multi-facility project is expected to create 2,600 jobs and bolster the company’s U.S. supply chain, with a focus on producing medicines for rare diseases and advanced biologics.

CEO Pascal Soriot called the move “a landmark moment for Maryland and American patients,” emphasizing that the investment deepens AstraZeneca’s long-standing commitment to the state and brings its extensive rare-disease portfolio onshore, catalyzing economic growth and enhancing domestic manufacturing resilience.
