Boeing Breaks Ground on $1 Billion Expansion of 787 Dreamliner Site in South Carolina

Boeing has officially broken ground on a major expansion of its Boeing South Carolina (BSC) facility in North Charleston, investing over $1 billion to boost production of the popular 787 Dreamliner. The project, which includes new infrastructure and a second campus near Charleston International Airport, is expected to create more than 1,000 new jobs over the next five years.
The expansion responds to robust global demand for the fuel-efficient widebody jet, with Boeing aiming to increase output to 10 aircraft per month by 2026. The site already handles full production of the 787-8, 787-9, and 787-10 models.
“We continue to see strong demand for the 787 Dreamliner family and its market-leading efficiency and versatility,” said Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “We are making this significant investment today to ensure Boeing is ready to meet our customers’ needs in the years and decades ahead.”
South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster praised the move as a vote of confidence in the state’s workforce and business climate, further solidifying its role as an aerospace hub.
