GlobalFoundries Boosts U.S. Chip Capabilities with $575M New York Center

Malta, New York – GlobalFoundries (GF) has announced a major expansion at its Malta manufacturing facility with the establishment of the New York Advanced Packaging and Photonics Center. The company will invest $575 million in the initiative, plus an additional $186 million for research and development over the next decade.
The first-of-its-kind center will focus on advanced packaging and testing for essential chips, including GF’s silicon photonics, Trusted, and 3D/heterogeneous integration offerings. This supports growing demand in AI, automotive, aerospace, defense, and communications sectors, while addressing customer needs for greater supply chain geodiversity and onshore capabilities.
The project is backed by up to $20 million from New York State and $75 million from the U.S. Department of Commerce. It is expected to create 102 new full-time jobs in the Capital Region over the next five years.
“We’re proud to partner at the state and federal level on this new center, which is a direct response to our customers asking for more geodiversity in their supply chains and additional support with advanced packaging solutions,” said Dr. Thomas Caulfield, President and CEO of GlobalFoundries.
