Century Aluminum and EGA Partner to Build First New U.S. Primary Aluminum Smelter in Nearly 50 Years

Century Aluminum Company and Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) have signed a joint development agreement to construct a new primary aluminum smelter in Inola, Oklahoma—the first such facility in the U.S. since 1980. The plant is slated to produce 750,000 metric tons of aluminum annually, more than doubling current domestic output, and will supply key industries including aerospace, automotive, construction, and defense. The project is expected to generate about 1,000 permanent jobs and 4,000 construction positions. “Our partner EGA brings world-class smelting technology and construction expertise that are fast-tracking our collective efforts to realize President Trump’s vision of rapidly increasing domestic primary aluminum production,” said Jesse Gary, CEO of Century Aluminum.
