Avio USA Breaks Ground on $500M Rocket Motor Plant in VA

Avio USA broke ground on September 29 on a new solid rocket motor manufacturing facility in the Town of Hurt, Pittsylvania County, Virginia.

About $500 million and 900,000 square feet

The roughly $500 million project will cover about 900,000 square feet and is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs, with production expected to begin in early 2029.

An independent merchant supplier

The facility will add U.S. solid rocket motor capacity for munitions and defense programs, giving major defense primes an additional source of supply.

Building an American company

James Syring, CEO of Avio USA said:

“Avio USA is building more than a manufacturing facility in Virginia. We are building an American company and workforce that can bring Avio’s proven propulsion expertise to the U.S. defense market. That means more capacity, more competition and greater resilience in the American rocket motor supply chain.”

Giulio Ranzo, CEO of Avio said:

“Today we are turning Avio’s long-term strategy into industrial reality. The successful completion of our capital raise provided the resources for this investment, which will expand the U.S. solid rocket motor manufacturing capacity and establish a lasting American presence for Avio.”
