Fort Bend County Approves Incentives for Proposed $10 Billion Tesla Solar Manufacturing Plant in Texas

Fort Bend Approves Incentives for $10B Tesla Solar Factory

Fort Bend County commissioners in Texas approved an economic incentive package on October 22 for a proposed Tesla solar power manufacturing facility, known as Project Crystal Sun, in the southeastern part of the county.

A proposed $10 billion project

Tesla is eyeing more than 1,000 acres in the Houston-area suburb for the proposed $10 billion facility, according to Houston Public Media. Tesla has not yet made a final site decision.

At least 8,700 jobs

Under the agreement, the project would create at least 8,700 jobs with a minimum wage of $100,000, according to county documents reported by Houston Public Media.

Incentives

If Tesla moves forward in Fort Bend County, it could receive a 100% property tax abatement on the facility, followed by property tax rebate grants covering 90% to 100% of eligible taxes, for a total of 30 to 35 years.

Fort Bend County Commissioner Dexter McCoy said:

“I am thrilled that the package we put together will not result in a property tax loss for our general fund and will also result in millions of dollars of additional revenue for our local school districts. This is a win for our residents and community partners.”
