GHH-BONATRANS to Build $93 Million Railway Wheelset Plant in Wayland, New York

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced on April 30 that GHH-BONATRANS, a European manufacturer of railway wheelsets and axles, will establish its first North American location in Wayland, Steuben County, in the Southern Tier. The company plans to invest up to $93 million and create up to 85 new jobs.
Bonatrans North America
The new subsidiary, Bonatrans North America, will build a facility at the 152-acre Wayland Business Park to build and service railway wheelsets, axles and related components for rolling stock customers. The company serves customers in more than 80 countries and has manufacturing operations in the Czech Republic and Germany. Construction is expected to begin later in 2026, with operations planned for late 2028.
State support
Empire State Development will support the project with up to $1.25 million in Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits. The state also awarded a $16.9 million POWER UP grant to the Steuben County Industrial Development Agency.
Jiří Kaleta, President and CEO, Bonatrans North America said:
“Establishing manufacturing operations in Wayland reflects our commitment to supporting customers closer to where they operate — in New York state, across the United States, and throughout the broader North American region. Proximity enables a better understanding of local needs, faster response times, and the ability to deliver solutions that create real value for our partners.”
New York Governor Kathy Hochul said:
“New York is bringing manufacturing back and making sure these jobs are created right here in Upstate New York.”
