Gilead Breaks Ground on Biologics Facility in Foster City

Gilead Sciences broke ground on August 27, 2026, on its new Chess biologics facility at its headquarters in Foster City, California. The project advances Gilead’s planned $32 billion investment in U.S. research, development and manufacturing through 2030.

End-to-end biologics capabilities

The 175,000-square-foot facility will strengthen Gilead’s end-to-end biologics capabilities, providing greater scale, speed and flexibility to support medicines from clinical development through commercial launch. It is estimated to be completed by 2029.

Part of a broader campus investment

The Chess biologics facility is part of Gilead’s wider Foster City campus investment, alongside its New Research Center and Technical Development Center, building infrastructure for scientific discovery, development and manufacturing.
