GlobalFoundries Invests $16B in Expanding Chip Production in New York and Vermont

In June 2025, GlobalFoundries announced a $16 billion investment to boost U.S. semiconductor manufacturing, focusing on expansions in New York and Vermont. Over $13 billion will modernize and expand existing facilities, supporting AI, aerospace, automotive, and high-performance communications tech.
The company’s Fab 8 in Malta, New York, and Essex Junction, Vermont, sites will see upgrades to enhance production capacity for essential chips. This includes a $1.5 billion CHIPS Act grant to fuel the growth, creating jobs and strengthening domestic supply chains.
The initiative, spurred by efforts to onshore critical tech, underscores GlobalFoundries’ commitment to U.S. leadership in semiconductors. Local officials have welcomed it for economic benefits, aligning with broader reshoring trends amid global chip demands.
