Hyundai Invests $450M in Montgomery Plant for Hybrids

Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama (HMMA) announced on October 28, 2026 that it will invest nearly $450 million to expand production at its Montgomery facility. Alabama officials put the capital investment at $412,885,541, with 53 new full-time jobs paying an average of $30.03 per hour ($62,467 a year).

Hybrid and EREV engine production

The project expands engine production at HMMA to support hybrid and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) technologies. The plant will also be prepared to build the next-generation Tucson, including hybrid versions, and the refreshed Santa Fe.

A plant with 4,200 employees

HMMA currently employs 4,200 team members. Together with its suppliers, the plant has an annual economic impact of more than $5 billion and contributes about $100 million in state tax revenue and more than $12 million in local tax revenue each year.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey said:

“Alabama and Hyundai are a winning team, and this substantial investment to enhance Hyundai’s well-known automotive line will propel our successful partnership to even greater heights. The future of Hyundai in Alabama is brighter than ever.”

Mark Rader, Chief Operating Officer of HMMA said:

“These investments will support new vehicle production, expanded engine manufacturing capabilities and advanced propulsion technologies that provide customers with greater choice and flexibility as the automotive industry continues to evolve.”
