J&J to Build Second Wilson, NC Drug Plant With 500 Jobs

Johnson & Johnson will make an additional multibillion-dollar investment in Wilson, North Carolina, Governor Josh Stein announced on January 9. The project is expected to create up to 500 new jobs at a state-of-the-art drug product manufacturing facility for oncology and neurological disease medicines.

Third North Carolina project in just over a year

In October 2024, J&J announced its first Wilson project, a $2 billion pharmaceutical manufacturing campus for innovative biologics with 420 jobs, which is under construction. In August 2025, the company secured a 160,000-square-foot site in Holly Springs for biopharmaceutical manufacturing, a $2 billion, 10-year commitment with 120 jobs.

State support

The new Wilson project is expected to be supported by a $12 million legislative appropriation to expand the training center at Wilson Community College and a grant from the state’s Industrial Development Fund – Utility Account. It is part of J&J’s commitment to invest $55 billion in U.S. manufacturing, R&D and technology.

Jennifer Taubert, Executive Vice President, Worldwide Chairman, Innovative Medicine, Johnson & Johnson said:

“We are pleased to make another significant manufacturing investment in North Carolina. This new facility is the third North Carolina project announced by Johnson & Johnson in the past year and will help to further accelerate the delivery of our portfolio of transformational medicines for patients.”

North Carolina Governor Josh Stein said:

“I appreciate Johnson & Johnson’s confidence that North Carolina is an ideal place to expand their business and create more good-paying jobs.”
