JST Power Equipment Launches New Transformer Manufacturing Facility in Wytheville, Virginia

JST Power Opens New Transformer Plant in Virginia

JST Power Equipment has officially opened a new 45,000-square-foot padmount transformer manufacturing plant in Wytheville, Virginia, marking a significant expansion of its U.S. operations. The facility, located in Fairview Industrial Park, will produce three-phase padmount transformers ranging from 25 kVA to 6,000 kVA up to 35 kV, with an initial production capacity of 100 units in 2025, expected to grow to 1,000 units by 2026.

The plant will serve as a customer experience center, service hub, and R&D facility, supporting North American customers in sectors such as renewable energy, data centers, and utilities. JST Power plans to hire 25–30 manufacturing workers and 10–20 office professionals initially, boosting local employment. “We’re thrilled to establish this new facility in Wytheville,” said Matthew Polk, Executive Vice President and General Manager. “It not only creates jobs but also strengthens our ability to meet the rising demand for high-quality transformers in the U.S. market.”

Local leaders welcomed the investment. Mayor Beth Taylor of Wytheville stated, “This growth reflects the dedication of our community’s workforce.” Chairman Brian Vaught of the Wythe County Board of Supervisors added, “We’re excited to support JST Power’s growth in Southwest Virginia.” An open house event is planned for June 3, 2025, to showcase the facility and recruit additional team members.

This expansion follows JST Power’s 2024 investment in a dry-type transformer plant in Nogales, Mexico, underscoring the company’s commitment to enhancing North American energy infrastructure.
