Keel Opens Prep and Paint Facility on Yonges Island, South Carolina for Navy Shipbuilding

Keel Opens Navy Shipbuilding Paint Facility in SC Lowcountry

Keel celebrated the grand opening of its new Prep and Paint Facility on Yonges Island, South Carolina, on October 29, a milestone in the company’s planned $67 million investment in the region.

170 new jobs

The expansion is expected to create 170 new jobs and increase Keel’s ability to manufacture components used in military vessels.

Painting larger sections

The facility allows Keel to paint larger, completed structural sections before delivery to shipbuilding customers. A structural section for the future USS Enterprise aircraft carrier, under construction at Newport News Shipbuilding, was on display.

Building naval capacity

A U.S. Navy official at the ceremony said:

“This facility strengthens manufacturing capability, creates opportunity for workforce growth in the region, and helps build much-needed capacity and capability to meet enduring national defense requirements.”
