Lilly Breaks Ground on $5B ADC Plant in Goochland, Virginia

Eli Lilly and Company broke ground on October 22 on Lilly Richmond, its $5 billion manufacturing site in Goochland County, Virginia. The facility will produce antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), a new generation of targeted cancer medicines.

650 permanent jobs

The site is expected to create 650 high-wage jobs for engineers, scientists, operators and lab technicians, along with about 1,800 construction jobs during the build.

API and finished medicine in one place

Lilly Richmond will be the company’s first site to combine active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) production and finished medicine manufacturing at a single location. The facility is designed to meet LEED Gold standards.

Targeted cancer medicines made in America

David A. Ricks, Lilly chair and CEO said:

“We are developing a new generation of medicines designed to target cancer cells with greater precision, yielding more powerful treatments with potentially fewer side effects. This $5 billion investment means we can make them right here in America. Lilly Richmond will help make sure this innovative science can reach the people who need it.”
