MAHLE Expands Lockport Facility with $6.8M Investment

German automotive supplier MAHLE has announced a $6.8 million expansion of its plant in Lockport, Niagara County, relocating a research and testing center from Michigan to enhance thermal management R&D capabilities.

The project will create at least 11 new jobs while retaining 226 existing positions at the facility on Upper Mountain Road. Supported by up to $250,000 in Excelsior Jobs Program tax credits from Empire State Development, the expansion strengthens MAHLE’s commitment to the region.

“We sincerely appreciate the strong support from state and local officials,” said Stefan Land, Vice President of Thermal and Fluid Systems at MAHLE North America. “Their partnership plays a vital role in enabling our growth and strengthening our long-term commitment to the region.”

The new center will focus on testing advanced thermal management products for vehicle cooling systems, with equipment expected to be operational by early 2026.
