Saronic Breaks Ground on $3 Billion Port Alpha Shipyard in Brownsville, Texas

Saronic Starts $3B Port Alpha Shipyard in Brownsville

Saronic has broken ground on Port Alpha, a next-generation American shipyard at the Port of Brownsville in Texas. Vice President JD Vance and Texas Governor Greg Abbott joined the ceremony.

More than $3 billion and up to 10,000 jobs

Port Alpha sits on 835 acres with the option to expand to nearly 4,400 acres and represents a private capital investment of more than $3 billion. Over the next decade, Saronic expects the shipyard to create up to 10,000 direct jobs. The facility will build autonomous, autonomy-capable and manned ships, with an initial 150,000 gross tons of annual shipbuilding capacity and the potential to scale to more than 2 million gross tons. The first phase includes Landing Craft Utility (LCU) vessels for the U.S. Navy.

Dino Mavrookas, Co-Founder and CEO of Saronic said:

“American shipbuilding needs to be rebuilt for what comes next. Port Alpha is where that starts. Port Alpha is designed from the ground up to produce both autonomous and manned vessels at scale, with modularity and throughput shaping the shipyard’s architecture.”

State support

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said:

“The seas of the world will be ruled by warships built in the great State of Texas. For ten years, Texas has ranked number one in the United States for creating new jobs, and Port Alpha will build on that record to strengthen Texas’ workforce and shape the arc of national security.”
