SEG Solar Plans $950M HJT Solar Cell Factory in Houston

SEG Solar announced on October 29 plans for a $950 million heterojunction (HJT) solar cell manufacturing facility at its Tomball Industrial Campus in the Houston area.

4 GW of solar cells

The facility is expected to add 4 GW of annual solar cell manufacturing capacity, coming online in two 2 GW phases targeted for 2028 and 2029.

More than 700 jobs

The project is expected to create more than 700 local jobs. It will sit next to SEG’s existing 4 GW Tomball #1 module factory and its 4.6 GW Tomball #2 module factory now under construction.

Cells, modules and components in one place

Once completed, the campus will bring solar cell, module and key component manufacturing together, helping customers meet domestic content requirements.

Jim Wood, chief executive officer of SEG Solar said:

“Bringing HJT cell manufacturing to the U.S. will give customers a more domestic supply chain with clearer sourcing and a single company standing behind the product. American-made cells, American-made modules, one company accountable.”
