Siemens Mobility Opens $220 Million Rail Manufacturing and Services Center in Lexington, North Carolina

Siemens Mobility marked the opening of its $220 million rail manufacturing and services center in Lexington, North Carolina, on April 3. Site construction is complete, production is underway and the first locally built passenger coaches are on track for delivery in summer 2026.
500+ jobs by 2028
More than 375 employees have already been hired, and the site is on track to meet its commitment to create 500 new jobs by 2028. First announced in March 2023, the greenfield site now spans ten buildings across 200 acres. The project is supported in part by a North Carolina Job Development Investment Grant and is estimated to grow the state’s economy by $1.6 billion over 12 years.
Coaches and overhauls
The facility manufactures Siemens Venture passenger coaches, starting with Amtrak’s Airo fleet, and serves as the company’s East Coast rail services hub for bogie, locomotive and coach maintenance and overhaul. It is the first facility in North America to offer both coach and locomotive overhauls.
Tobias Bauer, CEO of Siemens Mobility North America said:
“Our $220 million investment in Lexington reflects our long-term commitment to American manufacturing and to the communities that help power our industry.”
North Carolina Governor Josh Stein said:
“Siemens Mobility’s new facility will create more than 500 good-paying jobs in Davidson County and strengthen our state’s economy by nearly $1.6 billion over the next decade.”
