Viakable Expands La Salle, Illinois Cable Plant With $55M

Electrical cable manufacturer Viakable, a subsidiary of Mexico-based XIGNUX, announced a $55 million expansion of its manufacturing facility in La Salle, Illinois. The project will create at least 50 new full-time jobs and retain 65 existing positions.

New capacity for energy infrastructure

The project adds a 22,000-square-foot manufacturing addition, 17 advanced machines and utility upgrades including a new electrical substation. It will increase capacity for wire drawing, cabling, extrusion and packaging of cables used in power generation, transmission and distribution.

Carlos Ramos, CEO of Viakable said:

“This project will increase our manufacturing capacity and enable us to continue delivering reliable solutions for energy infrastructure in the U.S. and North America.”

EDGE incentive

The project is supported by Illinois’ Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) program.

Kristin Richards, Director of the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity said:

“By expanding in La Salle, Viakable is bringing more production to Illinois, creating new opportunities for workers, and reinforcing the region’s role in our state’s manufacturing economy.”
